Sixmilecross school eco work gains a Green Flag Award

Cooley PS gets its fifth Green Flag Award

COOLEY Primary School praised on its ‘great eco work’ as it gains its latest Green Flag Award.

This was the Sixmilecross school’s fifth time winning the prestigious award from the environmental charity, Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.

The internationally-recognised Green Flag is the highest award given to Eco-Schools and symbolises excellence in the field of environmental activity.

Assessors involved with the scheme praised the school on its ‘great work’ in the eco field.

The Eco-Schools Programme is the world’s largest environmental education programme.

In praising Cooley Primary School on achieving the accolade, assessors referenced the great range of pupils on the school’s Eco-Committee.

The assessors for the award commended Cooley PS saying the school’s use of social media to share its environmental work was to be commended.

The assessors added, “The school has a great Eco-Code and a very clear and concise action plan. The team was very impressed to see members of the eco-committee presenting this to the whole school. There is great work and links with various different Eco-Schools delivery partners, as well as a brilliant amount of data collected across the chosen topics.

“We would like to take the time to acknowledge the tough few years everyone has had but despite all that the work is still being diligently done in the background to strive towards a better and more sustainable and environmentally friendly school through the Eco-Schools programme.”
