Storm Barra: 8,000 homes across Tyrone without power

OVER 8,000 homes and businesses were without power at some point today in various parts of County Tyrone, according to Northern Ireland Electricity(NIE).

This was due to adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Barra.

1,500 customers of the provider were left in darkness in the Sion Mills and Glebe area due to an electricity pole being knocked down.

A spokesperson for NIE Networks said, “The high winds and adverse weather brought by Storm Barra today has resulted in some customers experiencing power cuts.

“Over the course of today approximately 8,000 customers in various areas within Tyrone experienced a loss of supply. Engineers from NIE Networks have been responding throughout the day to assess the extent of the damage in each area affected and carry out repairs to restore power to those customers without supply. As of 5pm, 128 customers are off supply and our teams are working as safely and quickly as possible to restore those remaining affected customers.”
