A MAGNIFICENT field of sprightly sunflowers that reflect hope and radiate joy are helping to raise money for Care for Cancer.
Lining the horizons of Omagh, the spectacle casts an iridescent yellow-gold glow over the Laurelbank Farm on the Ballynahatty Road, where the dancing blooms are located – and every flower purchased helps support the vital Campsie-based charity.
Open daily until late, the happy flowers have also planted the seeds of conversation about the many, and vital, services that Care for Cancer offer. These include: A driving service; complimentary therapies; a bra-fitting service; support groups for those affected by cancer, and the bereaved; recliner chairs for the terminally ill; an information library to help you understand your cancer; classes and courses to give people opportunities to express emotions such as anxiety, stress and depression and provides a time for relaxation; and social activities to support patients, their families and the bereaved.
Ivan Gilmour of Care for Cancer has encouraged everyone to view the splendours of the fine field, and leave a donation.
“The sun may have disappeared, but we have our own sunshine at Laurelbank Farm, who have kindly offered their sunflowers to us for fundraising,” the Omagh man said. “The flowers are looking fabulous; they are just beautiful.

“The sunflowers are at approximately 152 Ballynahatty Road, Omagh,” Ivan explained. “This is about three miles from the town. There are signs at the Ballynahatty Road turn off from the Dublin Road, but if you also do a Google search for ‘BGI NI’, it should take you very close to the field.
“Please bring your own secateurs, and remember to adhere to Covid-19 regulations when you visit.
“We look forward to seeing you all, and many thanks to everyone who has already come along.
“Spread the word, and please share your photos with us on Facebook.”
