A DRUG, alcohol and mental health awareness programme for 13-to-24- year-olds is urging the young people to ‘Love the Life you Live’.
The free programme is offered by Have Your Tomorrows (HURT) and is funded by Derry City and Strabane District Council through the Peace IV Programme. The programme will start this Saturday, September 19 from 11.30- 2.30pm and Wednesday evenings from 6-9pm.
There are two options for attendance: Physical venue (Covid guidelines will apply and there are limited places available, at the destined learning centre on the Foyle Rd; alternatively the programme can be delivered by Zoom.
The topics addressed will included:
Drug alcohol and mental health awareness; equality and diversity; CPR and use of an AED (Defibrillator); helping a choking casualty; helping someone who may be having a heart attack; helping someone who is having an asthma attack; managing panic attacks; dealing with bleeding; managing burns and scalds; recognising and responding to the signs and symptoms of poisoning including drug and alcohol poisoning and smoke and gas inhalation; dealing with head injuries; fractures; suicide prevention: practical knowledge and skills to keep someone safe in the event of mental health crisis.

Anyone who has completed a Peace IV programme previously will not be eligible to apply.
