JOE’S Traditional Fish and Chips in Sion Mills has been named as one of the UK’s 50 Best Fish and Chip Takeaways for 2025 – the only chippy in the county to make the prestigious list.
This success followed two rounds of mystery dining visits by leading trade publication Fry Magazine in which judges meticulously inspected aspects including food quality, premises cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering and social media presence.
With the pass mark set high at 96 per-cent, Joe’s scored an impressive 97 per-cent with the mystery diner particularly praising the vibrant modern menu, friendly, efficient service from beginning to end, and the excellent quality of the food, for which they scored 100 per-cent.
“The batter was excellent in colour, crispiness and taste. The fish was really tasty, good size and hot and flaky,” – this was just one of the positive comments from the mystery diner.
Louise Hamilton, owner of Joe’s Traditional, said, “It’s such an honour to make this list, we have never quite made it in previous years and it really means so much to be tested in this way and get such a positive result and comprehensive review of the business. As costs keep rising it really helps moral to be named in this type of award, and it’s a testament to the dedication and hard work of the staff to get placed in the top 50 UK.”
Commenting on their success, Reece Head, competition organiser, with Fry Magazine said, “It is with great pleasure that we congratulate Joe’s Traditional Fish and Chips on being one of the UK’s 50 Best Fish and Chip Takeaways.
“Another year has passed and, once again, these shops have shown resilience, adapting to today’s challenges with remarkable dedication. At a time when inflationary pressures are being felt, these businesses continue to stay positive and prioritise their customers, maintain exceptional standards, and find innovative ways to keep fish and chips affordable.”
