Yellow weather warning for Tyrone

A YELLOW weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for Tyrone by the Met Office.

Between 8pm tonight and 11am tomorrow morning, frequent sleet, hail and snow showers are expected, and may lead to some disruption to travel.

Some roads are likely to be affected, with longer journey times anticipated by road, bus and train service.

Frequent wintry showers arriving from the west this evening (Thursday) and overnight are likely to lead to a covering of snow for areas above 200 m (mainly around 2-4 cm, possibly as much as 5-10 cm over highest ground where showers are most frequent).

Falling snow below this level may cause some temporary slushy accumulations which then may freeze and cause dangerous, icy patches where skies remain clear for long enough.

Winds will be gusty around heavier showers, and there is also a small chance of lightning strikes from isolated thunderstorms in the northwest.

Stay safe when travelling as icy patches are expected on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, or or when walking on foot to avoid injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
