ALL-COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION TWO ROUNDUP

Stewartstown 1-7  Greencastle 2-12

The new rules have produced some high scoring encounters this season to date but in the first half this game certainly wasn’t among them with Greencastle leading 0-3 to 0-1 thanks to points from Mark Carson (2) and Sean Fox.

A goal after only three minutes of the second half from Dylan McElhatton was followed by a Gareth Devlin two pointer put the Harps in front but that only served to sting the visitors into action.

Sean Warnock and Miceal McCann both raised green flags while Carson took his personal haul to 0-7 and Fox scored another brace to end the game as a contest despite Stewartstown points from Shea O’Neill and Jude Lowe.

First points for Roes

Killeeshil 0-6 Owen Roes 0-17

THIS contest at St.Marys Park brought together two sides who had lost their opening games and it was a Cathal McShane inspired Owen Roes who took the spoils at the expense of Killeeshil.

The visitors were against the wind in the first half but they still managed to lead 0-6 to 0-3 at the turnover thanks to points from McShane (4), Conall McCormack and Damien McCrossan, Packie McMullan and Michael O’Neill on target for Killeeshil.

Gary Reilly and McMullan added points in the second period but the home side never looked like taking something from the game. Aidan Hegarty and Niall McAleer landed a couple each for the winners with Stephen Harper also getting in on the act while the on song McShane finished with 0-9 to his name.

Jordan stars for Eglish

Eglish 2-16  Rock 1-19

THIS proved to be the game of the weekend in Division Two as a fancied Eglish side were pushed to the pins of their collar at Connolly Park by a Rock side who can count themselves unlucky not to have taken something from the contest.

Rock had the wind at their backs in the first half and they made good use of it to establish a 0-15 to 0-7 lead.

Centre half forward Shane Murphy was outstanding or the visitors with 0-13 to his name including five two pointers with Conor McGarrity also on target. Ethan Jordan led the way in the scoring stakes for Eglish with Conall McNulty also on target.

Jordan hit a series of two pointers with the elements in his favour and he also converted a penalty. The gap was down to two when the hosts had Nathan Horsfield sent off for a second yellow. Peter Loughran got a Rock goal with Luke Donnelly doing likewise but the difference in the two teams was Jordan with an outstanding 1-14 to his name.

Moy in control

Moy 3-18  Naomh Eoghan 1-10

MOY made it two wins out of two and in truth a shock never looked to be on the cards as they comfortably made home advantage count against visiting Naomh Eoghan.

Not for the first time in his career Michael Conroy was in sparkling form for the sky blues with an impressive 1-11 to his name. Tiarnan Mayse scored a first half goal for Naomh Eoghan with Conor Langan hitting three points but efforts from Liam McGeary, Jamie Coleman and Conroy ensured Moy led 1-1 to 1-4.

Moy’s Ryan Coleman and McGeary both found the net too with Declan Conroy to the fore with the experienced Colm Cavanagh playing well. Eoin Devine was the visitors only second half marksman but his trio of two pointers only served to put a slightly better look on the scoreboard.

Fianna make home advantage count

Coalisland 3-13  Kildress 2-9

IN the end Coalisland justified their favourites tag at Father Campbell Park but not before Kildress made them work hard for their second victory of the campaign.

In the end the Fianna’s better range of scores, eight compared to three, proved to be a deciding factor. Peter Herron, Tiarnan Quinn and Rhys Teague got the Fianna goals with Quinn tagging on a trio of points.  Cormac O’Hagan contributed four points and the experienced Paddy McNeice was also on target.

Shea Quinn was in sparkling form for the Wolfe Tones with 1-6 to his name with Shea Loughran raising a green flag and Adam Connolly getting their other three points. Any chance that the visitors had of taking something from the game ended when they were reduced to fourteen men.

Rampant Rahillys

Clonoe 3-26  Aghaloo 0-10

NEWLY promoted Aghaloo experienced what its like to come up against one of the favourites in Intermediate football this season as Clonoe blitzed the visitors at O’Rahilly Park.

The hosts were in rampant form with the game already over as a contest at the break with the winners having established a healthy 2-14 to 0-5 advantage.

Tommy Taggert bagged two goals on the day for the hosts with Rhys Donnelly getting their other major.

Jody McGlone, Tiernan Donnelly and Niall Henderson accounted for all but one of Aghaloo’s tally on the night but that haul was matched by Connor McAliskey with Ciaran Corr, Ronan Corey, Declan McClure and Fintan McClure all on target as well with Taggert contributing five points for good measure to go along with his two majors.

McHugh rescues visitors

Drumquin 0-14  Aghyaran 0-14

A DRAMATIC end to this encounter on Friday evening saw Drumquin denied their first win back in Intermediate football after Eoghan McHugh held his nerve to knock over a late two point free. It was McHugh’s 4th two pointer of the half and his contribution was crucial to the St. Davogs fighting back. The Wolfe Tones had led 0-8 to 0-3 at the interval with Oisin Gorley getting a brace of two pointers and Finnian Patterson 0-3, McHugh with all of the visitors scores.

McHugh and Gormley traded points on the restart before the former landed a trio of two pointers in a row. The visitors had Conor McHugh sent off and Drumquin two advantage with two Oisin McMenamin points and another Gormley two pointer. A Caolan McGinity two pointer halved the deficit before McHugh saved the day to take his personal haul to a dozen.
