ACL DIVISION 3A

A STRONG first half display from Augher at Father Hackett Park helped pave the way for their first win of the season at the second attempt as they condemned visiting Castlederg to their third straight defeat.

The St.Macartans bossed the opening thirty minutes with leading marksman Darragh Kavanagh to the fore with Aidan McElroy, Martin McElhatton and Pascal Gormley all chipping in with scores as well, Daire Corry leading the charge for the St.Eugenes who trailed 0-13 to 0-4.

Kavanagh finished with seven points to his name but the second half proved to be a different story as Augher were holding on after managing just two scores.

A Corry goal helped him finish with 1-6 to his name with Adam Traynor, Jamie Doherty and Corin McConnell all contributing on the scoresheet as well but their fightback came up short.

ACL DIVISION 3B

Six of the best for Hill men

Derrytresk 4-19 Tattyreagh 2-14

THE game of the day in Division 3B at the weekend saw Derrytresk make it six wins out of six when they got the better of Tattyreagh in a high scoring encounter as the visitors lost for the second game running.

Both teams managed eleven scores in the opening half but crucially three of Derrytresk’s were goals and they never looked back. Caolan Corr, Keenan Donaghy and Pat Campbell got their majors and that enabled them to establish a 3-8 to 0-11 lead, Eoin McGrath, Keelan McDonagh and Stevie Gervin with Tattyreagh points.

The visitors closed the gap in the second half with goals from Ronan Collions and McGrath coupled with points from Joe Cartin and Colly Mimnagh but they were always playing catch up. Shea McConville got a fourth Derrytresk goal on a night when Cathal O’Neill kicked half a dozen points and Liam Slater and Eoin McNally were on target as well.

Roes continue good run

Brackaville 4-16  Killyman 2-8

BRACKAVILLE are another side who will be reasonably happy with their start to the campaign as they too were in fine scoring form against Killyman at O’Brien Park.

The Roes were out of the traps quickly and led 1-12 to 0-6 at halftime and after that Killyman were always playing catch up. Dale McSorley 1-6, Shea Fee 1-4 and Ronan McHugh 1-3 were a triple threat for the visiting defence to deal with Jason O’Neill, Ciaran Gervin and Tiernan McGlinchey scoring as well.

Enda McGahan continues to be a scoring machine for the St.Marys finishing with 1-6 while they were helped with an own goal as well but despite points from Eamon Donnelly and Adam Roache they ended up on the wrong side of a double score defeat.

Clann stage fightback

Donaghmore 0-15 Clann na Gael 0-17

CLANN na Gael are one of four sides who are joint second in the table with eight points but they had to pull out all the stops here at Father Devlin Park as Donaghmore didn’t look like a side who have lost all six games to date.

Indeed the St.Patricks greeted the short whistle with their noses in front 0-9 to 0-6 thanks to efforts from Dermot McAleer, Joe Kelly, PG O’Neill and Aodhan Molloy. The twin threat of Shea Browne and Robbie Conway were once again to the fore for the visitors.

In the second half Clann na Gael played better with Browne and Conway finishing with a combined tally of 0-14 between them with Ciaran Kerlin, Dan Houston and Gavin Tummins their other marksmen. McAleer had seven points on the night for the home side but they just came up short in their efforts to break their duck.

Urney on a roll

Urney 2-18 Brocagh 3-5

BROCAGH made the long trek to Urney on Monday evening in search of only a second win of the season but they returned home empty handed as the St.Columbas made it seven wins on the bounce.

The home side were 2-7 to 1-3 in front at halftime and they maintained a safe distance for the remainder of the encounter. Kyle Henry and Liam Langan got the goals for the winners with Conor McDaid and Ryan Henry weighing in with 0-5 apiece and Danny Doherty and Jamie McAleer getting a couple each.

To their credit the Emmetts kept plugging away with Mickey Hughes registering four points for them with James McKiver, Aidan Dorman and Cathal Donnelly all scoring goals but it wasn’t enough to stop Urney’s recent good form.
