Johnston’s dreams come true with Hyundai deal

CHRISTMAS most definitely came early for Aaron Johnston and Oliver Solberg this morning when it was announced that they had signed a multi-year deal with World championship winning manufacturer Hyundai Motorsport.

The contract between the reigning Junior European Rally Champions and the South Korean manufacturer will see the pair compete in an R5 Hyundai i20 in WRC2 in 2021 and after that there is a distinct possibility that the Fintona co-driver and his Norwegian pilot will find themselves in the premier class before too long.

The opportunity to seal the deal with Hyundai is a dream come true for 25-year-old Johnston, who can’t wait to get back to work early next year.

The deal will see Johnston and Solberg compete in 10 of the 12 rounds of the 2021 World Rally Championship, which is scheduled to begin at its traditional starting point of Monte Carlo in late January. Before that the young pair have a hectic testing schedule in order for them to get their new car perfectly set up for what promises to be a season to remember.
