LIFFORD Strabane AC’s Claire McGuigan enjoyed a double success at the weekend, winning round two of the club’s 5K Spring Series on Sunday, a day after she won the NI and Ulster Masters Cross Country crown.
Sunday’s 5K Spring Series race in Raphoe was well supported wth 45 club athletes among the 206 starters.
Club athlete Andrea Porter ran a personal best time, taking over a minute off her previous best time to finish in a time of 23:29 minutes, but the winner of the ladies’ race was again McGuigan, who placed 9th overall and 1st club finisher in an incredible time of 18:17.
Elaine Connor who was next to the finishing line for the club in 19:32, the third lady finisher overall ahead of Dympna Houston in 22.02.
The first Lifford Strabane AC senior male athlete to the finish was Conor McLaughlin in 15th overall in 18:39, ahead of Michael Duncan in 19:52, with the consistent Raymond Hoynes next in 20:23.
Young Wilson Craig was the first Lifford Strabane AC juvenile male to finish in a fantastic time of 18:25, followed by the ever-improving Cormac Carlin in 19:02. Taylor Neilands was next in 23:28!
The first juvenile female club member to finish was Orlaith McCrory in a 22:04, followed by Jaime McGinley in 22:40 and Holly Barr in 27:44.

On Saturday, at the NI and Ulster Masters Cross Country, the club was represented by two senior lady athletes, McGuigan and Connor, where the former was the overall winner in a time of 17:54 minutes to take gold, while the latter was 16th overall out of a field of 85 in 19:42.
