Good news for local racers

THERE was some good news for a host of local short circuit racers this morning when the British Superbike Championship released it’s updated provisional 2020 calendar.

Championship director, Stuart Higgs, confirmed that there would be six rounds, starting at Donington in early August, when Clogher’s Keith Farmer will finally get the chance to race his Buildbase Suzuki in the premier Superbike class.

Meanwhile, Omagh’s Jamie Lyons and Cookstown’s Matthew McCord were preparing to compete in the British Talent Cup, which will now take place during five of the BSB rounds, while the Junior Supersport Championship, featuring Killyman’s Cameron Dawson and Aughnacloy’s Andrew Smyth will be competed for over five race weekends also. McCord’s older brother, Jordan, who was set to race in the National 600 Championship, may sit out 2020 before returning next season.

In an email sent to competitors, Mr Higgs stated the rounds chosen for the truncated season offer the best ‘logistical, financial and operational’ circumstances during the present climate and that he hopes fans will be allowed to spectate once appropriate guidelines and protocols have been agreed.
