AN Omagh Harriers trio proved they are ‘gold’en oldies when they clinched a hat-trick of titles at the Irish Masters Championships at Morton Stadium, Santry, last weekend.
Fabian McNamee, Orlagh Colton and Trev McGlynn all sealed gold medals in their events, while Eoin Mullan, making his track debut at the event, won a bronze. With Covid-19 restrictions playing a part in proceedings, each athlete was only permitted to compete in one event, with McNamee tackling the long jump, as did Colton, who relinquished her hurdles title by doing so, while McGlynn, following 16 weeks of injury, competed in the 110m hurdles and Mullan tackled the 1500 metres.
All four athletes enjoyed good outings in their chosen events, with McGlynn showing his competition a clean pair of heels to win by almost three seconds ahead of Garret Nolan in 17.43 seconds, while McNamee jumped 5.09 metres to add to his indoor Irish bronze medal, Colton reached 3.99 metres to complete the indoor and outdoor long jump double and Mullan finished in a time of four minutes and 15 seconds.
“We had a good day. All four Omagh Harriers got a medal, three gold and a bronze, so it was happy days!,” beamed McGlynn.
