Local charity the Koram Centre is looking forward to its annual open day which is taking place at the Tulacorr Allotment and Community Gardens Project this Saturday from 11am-3pm.
The Koram Centre is a community/voluntary organisation offering support to individuals experiencing mental health and emotional well-being issues.
Adrian Loughrey, centre manager with the Koram Centre, outlined the event.
“We are really looking forward to our open day event on Saturday,” he said. “The event will be an opportunity to show case our allotment project and the work that goes on there.
“We will also have a range of produce, including flowers, herbs, jam and honey for sale. All proceeds raised will be re-invested into the Koram Centre to allow us to continue our much needed services.”
Adrian also outlined the work which takes place day and daily at the Tulacorr Allotment site.
‘The allotments are an important part of the services we provide here at the Koram Centre to support individuals to address their mental health and emotional wellbeing issues. This includes people who have been through our counselling services, as well as others who have not and just want to try something new. The allotments provide a peaceful and restorative space where members can spend time undertaking gardening and growing activities. It’s a welcoming place where people can get away from it all, and do something that they enjoy.
“This year, we have continued our work to deliver programmes at the allotments to increase knowledge, understanding and skills to promote positive mental health. This has included workshops on anxiety management and self-compassion, as well as activities like wood working, arts and crafts and meditation. We are always interested in what our members think is important, and programmes they would like to see take place.
“Feedback from members show that they really value the allotments and enjoy being part of it all.”
