Rexy Jacks restaurant in Omagh closes its doors

AN Omagh restaurant has closed amid mounting financial pressure on a hospitality group behind a chain of American-style diners across the North.

Rexy Jacks, which had operated at the Omniplex site in Omagh since 2018, shut its doors last week.

The barbecue-style diner traded as Hill Billy Jacks Limited and formed part of Stephen Hill’s Revolutionary Burgers restaurant group, which operates under the Dino Diners brand.

The group has run venues in Lisburn, Craigavon, Downpatrick, Larne and Dundonald, typically located beside – but operating independently of – Omniplex Cinemas.

At its peak, the group operated ten venues across the North.

However, a number of subsidiary restaurant companies linked to the group have faced High Court petitions from HMRC in recent months.

The business has faced sustained pressure from high inflation and rising staff costs.

It is understood that staff at the Omagh Rexy Jacks outlet were informed of the closure in the middle of last week, following a High Court decision on January 8 to wind up Hill Billy Jacks Limited under the Insolvency (Northern Ireland) Order 1989.

The company is now in liquidation under the remit of the Insolvency Service.
