STRABANE Down Syndrome Support Group has revealed that it has taken the difficult decision to postpone members’ once-in-a-life-time trip to Disneyland Paris due to the coronavirus crisis.
A spokesperson for the local group said that safety of the children would remain paramount and the holiday has been set back to 2021.
Strabane Down Syndrome Support Group’s big plans were unveiled to the children back in April last year at Strabane Cricket Club as part of the big ‘Disney reveal’.
Ostensibly the group was to travel to Disneyland Paris this November and a whole slew of fundraisers were initiated to make that a reality.
“As you know our last big campaign was to raise money to take some of our families to Disney and through the generosity and support of the people from Strabane and wider community we managed to achieve the amount we needed,” the spokesperson explained.
“However due to the pandemic of Covid-19, we have taken the very difficult decision to postpone our trip until next year.
“The safety of our vulnerable children is paramount and we could not risk the health and well being of those who have been shielding throughout this time.
“We hope you will all understand our decision and thank you all for your continued support.
“We would like to give a special mention to Daljeet Guram from Mango Travels who has been so accommodating in dealing with the supplier and getting our booking changed. We will keep you posted on our new date.”
