ALL of the tests carried out so far on players and officials as a result of the positive case of COVID-19 within the Eglish GAA senior team have been returned as negative, the DungannonHerald understands.
Both the St Patrick’s and Aghaloo O’Neill’s clubs suspended all gaelic games activities after the positive case emerged following their derby clash in Division Two of the Tyrone All-County League on Sunday.
A playing member of the Eglish later reported that he had tested positive for the disease.
It is estimated that 50 people who were in attendance at the derby clash were tested on Tuesday and yesterday (Wednesday).
Under GAA protocols issued last week, are permitted to resume activities with immediate effect once all those who have been deemed as ‘casual contacts’ have been identified.
It is understood that both Aghaloo and Eglish may consider resuming activities within the next week or sooner if all outstanding tests also come back as negative.
Both clubs issued statements in the aftermath of the positive test, saying that they had at all times adhered to the advice and guidance issued by the GAA and CLG Tyrone.
The Aghaloo club wished the affected Eglish player well and expressed the hope that he makes a speedy recovery.
In their statement, the committee of St Patrick’s club has said it was made aware of the positive result from a member of its senior team.
“As a result, the club have suspended all activity in all age groups and codes. The committee have informed CLG Tir Eoghain and Pairc An Chrocaigh and will be acting on the guidelines issues by CLG Tir Eoghain.”
In the game itself, Aghaloo, who were promoted from Junior ranks last year, recorded a surprise win against opponents relegated from Division One at the end of the 2019 season.
